Their existence has taught us the profound truth that nature abounds with unseen regularities. What is the ultimate status of these constants of nature? Do we know why they are as they are? Are they truly constant? Are they the same everywhere? Are they all linked? These are some of the issues this book will tackle. It will look back to the discoveries of the first constants of nature and the impact they had on scientists like Einstein. This is his story of how he found a way to make a difference, how he bought light to his family and village, and hope to his nation.\r\n \r\n \r\n Malawi is a country battling AIDS, drought and famine, and in 2002, a season of floods, followed by the most severe famine in fifty years, brought it to its knees. Like the majority of the population, William's family were farmers. They were totally reliant on the maize crop. By the end of 2001, after many lean and difficult years, there was no more crop. They were running out of food - had nothing to sell - and had months until they would be able to harvest their crop again.\r\n \r\n \r\n Forced to leave school at 14 years old, with no hope of raising the funds to go again, William resorted to borrowing books from the small local library to continue his education. One day, browsing the titles, he picked up a book about energy, with a picture of a wind turbine on the front cover. Fascinated by science and electricity, but knowing little more about the technology, William decided to build his own. Ridiculed by those around him, and exhausted from his work in the fields every day, and using nothing more than bits of scrap metal, old bicycle parts and wood from the blue gum tree, he slowly built his very own windmill.\r\n \r\n \r\n This windmill has changed the world in which William and his family live. Only 2 per cent of Malawi has electricity; William's windmill now powers the lightbulbs and radio for his compound. He has since built more windmills for his school and his village.\r\n \r\n \r\n When news of William's invention spread, people from across the globe offered to help him. Soon he was re-enrolled in college and travelling to America to visit wind farms. This is his incredible story.\r\n \r\n \r\n William's dream is that other African's will learn to help themselves - one windmill and one light bulb at a time - and that maybe one day they will be able to power their own computers, and use the internet, and see for themselves how his life has changed after picking up that book in the library.\r\n show more","published_at":"2022-05-18T20:43:02+01:00","created_at":"2022-05-18T20:43:02+01:00","vendor":"William Kamkwamba","type":"","tags":[],"price":295,"price_min":295,"price_max":295,"available":true,"price_varies":false,"compare_at_price":null,"compare_at_price_min":0,"compare_at_price_max":0,"compare_at_price_varies":false,"variants":[{"id":42826695147745,"title":"HarperCollins Publishers \/ 11 Jan 2012 \/ 524","option1":"HarperCollins Publishers","option2":"11 Jan 2012","option3":"524","sku":"9780007316199","requires_shipping":true,"taxable":true,"featured_image":null,"available":true,"name":"The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind - HarperCollins Publishers \/ 11 Jan 2012 \/ 524","public_title":"HarperCollins Publishers \/ 11 Jan 2012 \/ 524","options":["HarperCollins Publishers","11 Jan 2012","524"],"price":295,"weight":0,"compare_at_price":null,"inventory_management":"shopify","barcode":null,"requires_selling_plan":false,"selling_plan_allocations":[]}],"images":["\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0501\/4188\/8668\/products\/9780007316199.jpg?v=1652902982"],"featured_image":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0501\/4188\/8668\/products\/9780007316199.jpg?v=1652902982","options":["Publisher","Published Date","Location"],"media":[{"alt":null,"id":29987894132961,"position":1,"preview_image":{"aspect_ratio":0.653,"height":400,"width":261,"src":"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0501\/4188\/8668\/products\/9780007316199.jpg?v=1652902982"},"aspect_ratio":0.653,"height":400,"media_type":"image","src":"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0501\/4188\/8668\/products\/9780007316199.jpg?v=1652902982","width":261}],"requires_selling_plan":false,"selling_plan_groups":[],"content":"NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURED DIRECTED BY AND STARRING CHIWETEL EJIOFOR - AVAILABLE ON NETFLIX\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n When William Kamkwamba was just 14 years old, his family told him that he must leave school and come home to work on the farm - they could no longer afford his fees. And it did for Martina Cox and her family in 2018. On an ordinary day in April of that year, Sean Cox travelled to Anfield to watch his beloved Liverpool play. But he never made it to the match. A vicious, unprovoked attack left him with a severe brain injury, unable to walk or talk. \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n Here, Martina tells their remarkable story. It is a story of inner strength and determination, of dedication and commitment. By not taking no for an answer and with the help of their family, their community, the Liverpool spirit, and tens of thousands of people across the world who were touched by Sean's story, they have achieved what was thought to be impossible. \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n With Hope in Your Heart brings Sean's story right to the present day, as he moved back to his family home for the first time in two years just as the coronavirus lockdown took hold. The book includes a foreword by Jurgen Klopp.\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n 'Both a love story and a deeply moving, powerful account of how they have tried to piece their lives back together.' Exploring the halls of intellectual inquiry and stardom he encountered after the publication of his seminal work, The Selfish Gene; affectionately lampooning the world of academia, publishing, and television; and studding the pages with funny stories about the great men and women he's known, Dawkins offers a candid look at the events and ideas that encouraged him to shift his attention to the intersection of culture, religion, and science.
